Quetiapine is a type of medications called a “second generation of” medications. They were introduced in the United States in 1997 and are more effective when used at the lowest dose and without long term side effects.
Seroquel works by blocking certain natural atypical neurotransmitters (neurotransmitters) in the brain. These neurotransmitters are key components of the brain’s electrical circuit. This made the result of the medicine working in the same way but less effective.

Second generation antipsychotics (generally known as “typical PAs”) are drugs that have been approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for the treatment of a broad range of conditions. These drugs were created for treating a few conditions, but they have since proven to be effective and are being used to treat many more.
These drugs are meant to be used at the lowest dose and without long term side effects. Some medications have the potential to cause some side effects, while others may not. The side effects of these medications are not limited to treating a mental health disorder or helping symptoms return to normal once they have gone away.
Seroquel has a very narrow therapeutic window.
